Thailand Travel Plan

Thailand Travel Plan is a small specialist internet based Thailand tour operator, offering you a unique way of travelling around Thailand. Our Thailand specialists will help you build your own trip, handing you complete control of your holiday. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service levels which continue throughout the life of your booking.

Thailand Travel Plan is part of Rickshaw Travel, an online adventure tour operator made by travellers for travellers.

Our trips are very individual, so we're able to use small-scale, authentic accommodation with local character and warm welcomes. With Rickshaw Travel, you won't find large group tours but instead you'll travel by trains, buses, private car, planes, and sometimes minibus. Flexibility and independence are fundamental, which is why we organise as much or as little as our clients wish.

We also like to give something back to local communities, which is why we sponsor various charity projects. See our responsible travel page for more information.

We're able to keep our prices low because we don't produce flashy brochures or run luxury shops. However you're more than welcome to visit our Thailand specialists during your travel planning! We are based in Brighton, on the South Coast and we're the sister company of round the world specialists, Travel Nation.

My first time in Thailand was part of a 3 month trip through South-East Asia after graduating from University. I immediately fell in love with the country.

My personal highlight was definitely Koh Tao, where I did my PADI scuba diving course. It was absolutely amazing. I loved every minute, even when I almost knelt on a poisonous stone fish while on a night dive!

You will probably have tried Thai food back at home, but the real thing is very special. The ingredients are sometimes weird and wonderful but you can be sure that your meal will be absolutely delicious. I could live forever on Massaman curries!

Thailand is such a beautiful place and has so much to offer. Whether you’re after stunning beaches and beautiful corals or rolling hills and jungle adventures, Thailand is the place to go.

It was back in 2000 on my Gap year that I first travelled to Thailand. Backpacking round the country was an amazing eye opening experience. What really struck me were the lovely friendly people, beautiful scenery and super tasty food, mmm Thai green curry!

I think travelling can teach you so much about other cultures and yourself. Once I finished my Photography degree I couldn’t wait to visit South East Asia again, so in 2005 I headed off again with my backpack to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. My favourite part of the trip was staying with a Karen hill tribe north of Chiang Mai and seeing how resourceful and hospitable they were. I also loved just chilling out on the southern Thai island beaches, Koh Tao was especially memorable.

It was these three months away that I really got to understand the sense of freedom you get from independent travelling; the amazing feeling you get when your senses are working overtime, seeing new things for the first time, smelling new aromas and tasting an authentic fragrant locally cooked dish.

I visited Thailand in 2005 as part of a Round the World Ticket during my gap year before attending university. I have been recommending it ever since.

A definite highlight for me was hill tribe trekking in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Not only did I encounter real hill tribe communities, but was also able to ride elephants and taste some authentic Thai cuisine (including rat!).

Thailand really does have something for everybody; beautiful beaches, inspiring temples, stunning dive sites and most importantly, incredibly warm and friendly people.

Ever since visiting Thailand I’ve been looking forward to going back!

Bangkok was the first stop on my first Round The World ticket back in 1995. I spent a month travelling the country seeing the north and south and, having never really been out of Europe before, I was totally amazed by Thailand.

I've been back many times since, sometimes stopping just a night in Bangkok on the way to other Asian countries and sometimes spending another month travelling to new places. Thailand is never dull, there is so much to see and do, and there are always new places / islands to visit every time you go.

The people are genuinely friendly, the countryside diverse, the beaches some of the best I've ever been to, and the food is still my all-round favourite of any country I've ever visited.

2001 marked the beginning of my obsession with Asia!

I flew into Thailand and travelled around for about 6 weeks, and have been back several times since. My most recent trip was 6 months travelling through Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and finally Vietnam.

This area of Asia, Thailand in particular has everything, it is very hard to leave. I think anyone lucky enough to experience it longs to go back the moment they leave...

I was studying towards a PhD in Shakespeare when I was struck by itchy feet. Finally, after several bouts of travelling, I decided to move into the field professionally, and I have been working in travel ever since. Before joining Thailand Travel Plan, I spent one year organising safari holidays in Southern Africa.

In 2005, I travelled independently through South East Asia- Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam- on a trip that I booked through Travel Nation. I was amazed by the incredible warmth of the people, the beauty of the landscape, and (of course) the weather, in each of these countries. I had to drag myself away, and I couldn't wait to return.

Since then I have been hooked on Asia at large, and I have very recently spent 3 months backpacking through India alone.

In addition to Asia, I spent a total of around 4 months travelling across South Africa and 6 months living in Italy to learn the language.

Manager

Thailand Travel Plan is run by Haydn Wrath.

I left the University of East Anglia in 1984 and escaped what seemed a very grim England by spending the rest of the 1980s travelling and working round the world. During this time I put in some usual stints as an English teacher in Tokyo, a landscape gardener in Sydney and a tarmac layer's assistant in Alaska. In 1990, I joined Bridge the World Travel Centre in London as manager of the World-wide department, where I was able to put my degree in Politics and Philosophy to good use.

I fulfilled my ambition to set up a specialist travel company in 2001 when I founded Travel Nation, and later in 2006 set up Thailand Travel Plan.

I have visited Thailand countless times over the last couple of decades and am always utterly charmed by the people and the atmosphere there. Thailand has so much going for it that it really can be all things to all people. Also of course, in common with so many other visitors, when in Thailand, I am in food paradise...especially that beef salad they do ...
