Hazel HartThailand travel specialistI first visited Thailand as part of my round the world adventure in 2003. It was the one place that I wished I had stayed a little bit longer - so I went back in 2011 through Thailand Travel Plan! Out of every country in Asia, Thailand for me has everything you could possibly want from an adventurous and relaxing holiday. I’m not a city person as I’m not keen on crowds, but I was captured by the temples, markets and street stalls in Bangkok and Chiang Mai and because of the location of the hotels, even found the cities quite relaxing! My favourite parts of Thailand were the jungles of Chiang Mai and Khao Yai national park as they were so peaceful with the most incredible views. If you want to escape from it all and immerse yourself in ‘Jurassic Park’ style scenery then I would definitely recommend both of these places. I also think that Thailand has the most picturesque tropical islands in the world and Ko Phi Phi is my personal favourite, even though it is a little more touristy these days. To me, it literally is paradise as it has white sands, tropical seas with amazing underwater life and fantastic views of Maya Bay where the film ‘The Beach’ was filmed! I’d also like to be able to visit Ko Raya, Ko Yao Yai and Ko Hai on my next trip as these look equally as stunning and are less touristy. One thing I’d highly recommend on your first trip to Thailand is taking an overnight sleeper train (second class) as it’s an experience like no other! |

Caroline KingThailand travel specialistI first got my taste of travelling when I spent a month in Italy during my time at university. After graduating in Media and Cultural Studies I decided to plan a Round the World trip in January 2011.Thailand was my first stop. Arriving in bustling Bangkok from cold England was amazing. The heat, the sounds, the smells-it was a massive culture shock and one of the best things I have ever experienced. The first time I walked down Khao San Road, I was entranced by the mix of people and cultures coming together and that first Pad Thai I had from a street vendor can never be matched! I then spent a month island-hopping in the south; clear blue waters, white sandy beaches and fresh fruit shakes made my time in this idyllic country one to remember! After finishing my trip, Thailand still holds a special place in my heart. The people are so welcoming and friendly, the food is delicious and aromatic and the landscape is some of the most beautiful I have seen. |
Emma TannerThailand travel specialistI first visited Thailand in 2000. It was my first time travelling alone and I was a bit apprehensive about getting around an Asian country as a lonesome female. I needn’t have worried! The land of smiles certainly lived up to its name. The people were amongst the friendliest I had ever met and the stunning beaches & turquoise seas ensured that I never wanted to leave. Sadly, I couldn’t make the Thai baht stretch and I came back to home determined to share my passion by working in travel and saving my pennies for a bigger trip. Three years later I began an 18 month round the world trip- first stop... Thailand. This time I travelled by overnight buses and sleeper trains from the beautiful hilltop village of Pai in the North all the way down to the Islands in the South. My favourite place has to be the island of Ko Phi Phi with its dramatic scenery, fabulous laid back beach bars, pancake street stalls and the place where my sister visited me on my lonesome travels. This of course is closely followed by Ko Lipe where my husband proposed at sunrise! |

Haydn WrathManaging DirectorThailand Travel Plan is run by Haydn Wrath.I left the University of East Anglia in 1984 and escaped what seemed a very grim England by spending the rest of the 1980s travelling and working round the world. During this time I put in some usual stints as an English teacher in Tokyo, a landscape gardener in Sydney and a tarmac layer's assistant in Alaska. In 1990, I joined Bridge the World Travel Centre in London as manager of the World-wide department, where I was able to put my degree in Politics and Philosophy to good use. I fulfilled my ambition to set up a specialist travel company in 2001 when I founded Travel Nation, and later in 2006 set up Thailand Travel Plan. I have visited Thailand countless times over the last couple of decades and am always utterly charmed by the people and the atmosphere there. Thailand has so much going for it that it really can be all things to all people. Also of course, in common with so many other visitors, when in Thailand, I am in food paradise...especially that beef salad they do ... |
