Rustling Palms on Raya Island

Route: Phuket - Ko Raya - Phuket

Ko Raya Island is the perfect place to unwind and soak up the sun. It's an amazing coral island just south of Phuket, still relatively undiscovered, with white-sand beaches and azure waters. There is very little to do here - and that's precisely what might attract you.

From Phuket, you'll be picked up from the pier and taken by speedboat to Ko Raya Island. You'll spend 3 nights on the island and most likely find yourself awestruck by the underwater world that thrives beneath the calm waters. This is an ideal place to take an introductory scuba dive, or a PADI Open Water course. Your transport back to Phuket pier is also included.

Day 1: Arrival on Ko Raya

On the first day of this Thailand island hopping trip in Ko Raya, you will be picked up from your hotel in Phuket by minibus and taken to the pier. The speedboat for Ko Raya Island leaves at 9am (8:15am in low season) and takes about 45 minutes.

You'll stay in a clean and comfortable beach resort right beside a long stretch of white-sand beach on Ko Raya. The resort is set amongst lush tropical gardens and vegetation. Your room is tastefully decorated in Thai-style and has air-conditioning and an en-suite shower room. Once you’ve settled in, you can begin to relax and head to the beach for some well-deserved laziness. The beach is just 150m from your front porch, so it won't take long to feel the powdery sand between your toes and take a dip in the cool azure waters...

Day 2: Ko Raya - Free Time

If you've been doing some more adventurous Thailand island hopping, you'll find Ko Raya the prefect place to relax. You can start the day with a refreshing dip in the warm, turquoise sea. Early mornings are a great time to find a kaleidoscope of exotic fish swimming in the bay. Breakfast will taste all the better after your energetic underwater excursion.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the slightly bigger Patok Beach. Another great beach is Siam Beach, which is right by your hotel. Here there are a few beach bars, and you can also get a massage at a reasonable price. Walking along the sandy paths, you might come across another walker or two, but there is no traffic here - only the sounds of natural island life and perhaps a few day trippers.

Day 3: Ko Raya - Free Time

You'll have all day to relax on the beach today. Lounge around on your porch, by the pool, or on a beach lounger in the sun. Read the last few chapters of your book whilst sipping fresh fruit juice or treat yourself to a delicious fruit shake from the beach bar.

Maybe today is the day to try an introductory scuba dive? With the guidance of a divemaster instructor you can try a real scuba dive in the wonderful waters. The visibility in the waters off the island is excellent (about 25m). If you wish to take a full course and get your PADI diving certificate, we can extend your stay on Ko Raya.

Day 4: Departure from Ko Raya Island

After breakfast, you will leave your footprints in the sand for the last time and return to Phuket as this Thailand island hopping trip to Ko Raya comes to an end. The boat departs Ko Raya at around 15:00-16:00 during November to April, and 12:00-13:00 between May to October.

Phuket is an excellent base from which to start the next part of your journey. Why not head to the island of Ko Yao Yai where you can continue snorkelling and sunbathing.

Or if your time has run out, Phuket airport has good flight connections to Bangkok, where you can connect to your international flight home.

Warning: You must not fly within 24 hours of your last dive!

If you'd like a few more home comforts during your stay on Ko Raya, we can upgrade you to a higher room category at the same resort. This means you'll still have the same benefits, such as the resort's lush vegetation and close vicinity to the beach. On top of this, if you choose this option, your room will have a little extra space and style with a few more furnishings. Best of all, you'll be right by the pool so you can grab the best sun loungers before anyone else does!

You can find the price for this option in the table above.
