Cycling in Bangkok

Duration: Three days, two nights
Price: £112 per person - based on two people sharing

This module is a brilliant way to begin your Thailand trip. When you arrive in Bangkok, you'll be transferred to your hotel near the legendary Khao San Road. The following afternoon, you'll set out to meet the real Bangkok on two wheels. With a pushbike, you'll make your way to the suburbs, where there is little evidence of modern-day life. You'll walk your bike through the local market and cycle on narrow paths alongside the klongs (canals) characteristic of Bangkok. Finally, the bikes will be loaded onto a boat and you'll drift back to the city along the jungle-lined river. You'll spend another night in the comfortable Bangkok hotel. Leave cosmopolitan chaos behind you for a taste of truly rustic Thailand. During this unique module, you'll visit a rural village buried deep within the countryside in the eastern province of Isaan. There are no hotels, shops or restaurants here - just agriculture and the natural wildlife. You'll stay with a family to experience some real Thai hospitality. Join your English-speaking hostess on walks through the village, visit the local temple (quite different to the golden extravagances of Bangkok), take a peek into the school classroom, learn how the land is farmed, and take part in village activities like branding cattle, hunting for insects, selecting silkworms. Maybe even indulge in a little bit of frog-hunting.....

Additional information

When planning your trip, don’t forget to take account of the time required to travel between modules. For example, when travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai you should give yourself at least one rest day in Chiang Mai before starting a module. If a module ends on Wednesday we recommend taking Thursday off and then starting a new module on Friday. In our planning, we always take into account the best link between modules. Feel free to contact us for advice- we'll be on hand to help.

The prices quoted are per person, based on two people sharing. We can also arrange transportation between places and modules, or, if you would prefer, you can choose to arrange these yourselves locally. In the cities, there will be dozens of taxis and tuk-tuks clamouring for your business so getting from A to B is very. Breakfast is also included in the quoted prices, and any other meals that may be included are stated in the daily itinerary. For overnight travel, we use comfortable second-class air-conditioned sleeper trains.

We also offer suggested itineraries which are built from a logical combination of these modules. These might give you an idea of some possible routes for your trip.
