Diving Ko Tao - postcard perfect beaches

White sands of turtle island

Route: Ko Tao

Ko Tao Island has all the ingredients of a tropical paradise: powdery white sand, waving palm trees, azure waters, and exotic marine life. During this trip, you can surrender yourself to the relaxed atmosphere of Ko Tao Island, also known as Turtle Island. Although easily accessible from Ko Samui, Ko Tao Island is far more laid back. It's a great place to put your feet up in a hammock with a fruit shake and a good book. Ko Tao Island has a variety of beaches, a few small restaurants and masses of impressive snorkelling and diving spots.

Diving in Ko Tao is an unforgettable experience. You'll see a rainbow community of clown fish, angelfish and parrotfish. You may also come face to face with whale sharks and even harmless nurse sharks. An easy day trip across to the mini-island of Nang Yuan is also worth the effort. As well as diving in Ko Tao, you can walk along the white beaches, swim the bays and marvel at the remarkable views.

Day 2: Ko Tao Island

After a wonderful breakfast of all kinds of fresh tropical fruit, you can spend your first full day relaxing or visiting the tiny islet of Nang Yuan. This is a quick 10-minute boat trip journey from Ko Tao Island, and if you get there for midday you can try a tasty lunch at the only restaurant on Nang Yuan. Take your snorkelling gear out to the coral reefs off one of the bays and prepare to be amazed. Suddenly, you’ll find yourself in a phenomenal underwater world, with innumerable fish in every conceivable colour. If you like things a little more active, you can always take a hike up to the Ko Tao Island viewpoint which gives spectacular panoramic view over the three islands. It really is worth the effort.

Day 3: Diving in Ko Tao

If you fancy some Ko Tao diving, you're in luck. Diving in Ko Tao is very popular and you're sure to find another enchanting world below the glistening water's surface. Ko Tao diving is great for swimming with clown fish, seahorses, and swaying anemones. Take your snorkel gear and spend all day exploring the coral fields, coming up only for sun, food and evening cocktails. If you want to discover the deeper world and bigger fish, it's possible to try an introductory dive. If you've never dived before, Ko Tao has enough great dive sites to give you the passion to start a new hobby. It's possible to take a full Ko Tao diving course and gain your PADI diving certificate, allowing you access to thousands of other dive sites around the world. You may need to extend your stay on Ko Tao Island if you intend to gain this certificate, just let us know.

WARNING: You must not fly within 24 hours of your last dive!

Day 4: Departure from Ko Tao Island

This Ko Tao diving tour finishes after breakfast, when you'll wave a reluctant goodbye to this beautiful tropical island.

We can arrange an onward ferry for you to one of the other islands on the southeast coast, where you can opt for a Ko Samui trip or visit Ko Pha Ngan. Alternatively, if you are ending your trip with this module, we can arrange the ferry back to Chumphon, and a connecting day bus back to Bangkok. There are, of course, many Southern tours in Thailand which you can take next.
