Accommodation in Thailand

During your trip with Thailand Travel Plan you'll stay in attractive well kept accommodation that reflects the character of your surroundings. Because of the adventurous nature of our trips, you'll experience a wide variety of styles and standards of accommodation. For example you might spend a night with a mountain tribe (during a trekking trip in North Thailand), or enjoy a night on a very cosy floating hotel (during the River & railway module), or a deluxe bungalow on a paradise island.

We take great pride in the fact that we have visited and hand picked all of the accommodation we use. Ensuring that each one has the right combination of features such as cleanliness, location, friendly staff and a good level of service, balanced against a good value for money.

It should also be mentioned that our category ratings are not official star ratings.

Accommodation Categories

Thailand Travel Plan uses a category of 1 to 4 to rate the accommodation we use in our modules and suggested itineraries. The photo gallery at the bottom of this page, combined with the descriptions below should help to give a general indication of the comfort level you will experience within the different categories of hotels we use. Our standard is category 3, and in general the comfortable accommodation we mention in the website falls into this category. This means good, comfortable accommodation without being over-luxurious , which has it's own private shower and toilet, and often has a typical Thai ambience.

Category 1 - Very basic overnight accommodation
Basic accommodation in a hut/tent with limited facilities. This form of accommodation is what you would use during a hiking trip in North Thailand, and also when you stay overnight in a floating cabin on a lake in Khao Sok National Park.

Category 2 - Simple accommodation
Simple but reasonably comfortable, with shared facilities usually including a warm shower. During the 'River and Railway' module you sleep in a "floatel", a floating hotel. Overnight journeys on second class sleeper trains, and the Thai family home stay also falls into this category.

Category 3 - Comfortable accommodation
This is our standard, and most accommodation in Thailand falls into this category. Clean, charming and well-kept accommodation, full of character and in good locations. They vary from cosy guesthouses, to fantastic bungalows located right on the beach.

Category 4 - Special accommodation
In some places we have found some truly exceptional accommodation. These can range from Boutique hotels, to a luxury resort and spa. They're a touch more expensive than our standard, but worth every penny. Maybe you want to treat yourself after a hard year at work, or are celebrating something special, a honeymoon or anniversary for instance. Let us know and we'll do our best to arrange something that little bit special.
