Thailand car hire conditions
Driving licence and minimum age for car hire in Thailand The minimum age to hire one of our standard category rental cars is 21. You must also have had your driving licence for a minimum of two years.
Second drivers If you rent your car through us, there is no extra charge for a second driver. All drivers have to be stated on the hire contract, and comply with the hiring conditions.
Identification When the car hore representative hands over the keys you are expected to present a passport, which is valid for minimum of six months, a valid driving licence and a credit card (see payment and deposit).
Pick up / drop off costs This usually means that you have to pay an extra fee, should you choose to drop off your rental car in a different location from which you pickuped it up. With our Southern island drive module though, all these charges are included in the cost. The Golden triangle - self drive modules will bring you naturally full circle back to Chiang Mai.
Child seats Should you be travelling with small children, then we strongly advise you to hire a child seat or baby seat. The cost of a baby seat is £7 per day. Be sure to indicate this in your travel request form so that we can reserve it for you in advance. You pay the additional charge to the office when you collect the car.
Hire period The minimum hire period is 24 hours. It is not permitted to take the hire car into other countries such as Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia, as a condition of the insurance.
Payment and deposit Should we arrange a rental car for you, then the confirmation, included in the cost, can be found in the details of the return e-mail. When you transfer the total cost of your holiday to us the rental car is then paid for. You don't have to pay any direct deposit. A blank credit card payment slip will be made out by the representative of the car hire company, either when they deliver the car to you or when you pick up the car yourself at the airport, and that is used as a form of deposit. If you do not possess a credit card, then you can pay the deposit in cash. You will be expected to hand over 30,000. Bhatt to the car hire representative, which is later returned to you when you drop off the car.
Replacement Should there be any reason to replace your hire car halfway through your trip, then this will be taken care of by the local representative. (This could be a different model to that which you initially hired.)
Maintenance All hire cars are regularly checked, and are in good condition.
Maximum speed You drive on the left in Thailand, so the same as the UK, making things a little easier. The maximum official speed limit in a built-up area is 60 km an hour and outside built-up areas, 80 km an hour. Frequently there's no real indication of where the ‘outside a built-up area’ starts. On certain special through-routes, and on motorways, maximum speed is 100 km an hour. Always pay attention to your speed, as more importantly there are occasions when animals are liable to cross the road with little warning.
In case of emergencies The car hire company has 24-hour emergency number, which you'll find in the rental contract that you receive when you're given the keys.
Subject to changes All information about costs, insurance premiums and conditions can change without notice, or be influenced by local laws. Detailed conditions of the hire contract are received when you pick up the vehicle.
