Stopover Destinations

There is usually little extra cost to your flights if you just transit, or opt to take a stopover. A two night stay is usually enough for a good rest, and enough time to have a good look around the highlights of the city. We can arrange your accommodation, and there is plenty of choice from a simple comfortable lodge, to deluxe hotels, always centrally located of course.

If you're thinking of incorporating Thailand into a multiple stop, or Round the world itinerary, again we have the knowledge and airline deals to arrange these. Just contact us.

Below are some of the more popular stopover destinations.

Dubai

Dubai is an amazing place to behold. From the timeless tranquillity of the desert springs a city that offers a wealth of attractions for visitors and makes a great stopover.

In a single day, you can experience everything from rugged mountains and awe-inspiring sand dunes to sandy beaches and lush green parks. From the lively bustle of the souk's, to a huge indoor snow dome where you can go skiing or snowboarding ! Check out the famous Burj Al Arab hotel just off shore, built in the shape of a billowing sail of a sail boat.

Dubai offers a wide range of hotel options, from simple hotels to some of the best 5 star hotels in the world.

Rather conveniently Dubai lies almost half way between the UK and Thailand, and offers many regional departures, making it an excellent stopover option.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong was a British Colony until it was handed back to China in 1997, and although much has changed there is still a strong British influence. A visit to Hong Kong is one of the 'must-do's' for anyone who wants to experience a true Asian city. Amongst the skyscrapers and clutter of Chinese signs, it's possible to shop 24 hrs-a-day, you'll be surrounded by fast talking business men on ever-faster mobile phones, there are lots of display cases full of the strangest looking food, but there are also quiet little fishing villages on Hong Kong Island where the oh so Chinese junk ships are moored up. Take the Star Ferry around Kowloon, and you can enjoy a free harbour cruise. Aberdeen Harbour and the view from Victoria Peak are two highlights not to be missed.

If you have more time, we can also recommend taking a day trip to the former Portuguese colony of Macau with its old historic facades, and modern super casinos. You can also stay on Lantau island, which is quieter than the main island, and has beaches. In the evenings try fantastic food, drink in the coolest bars, and finish with one of the hip nightclubs or many Karaoke bars.... Hong Kong - you have to go.

Singapore

A bustling, extremely affluent and indeed, very clean city-state. Some people think it is boring and predictable, we think it's well worth a two day visit. The city has a little bit of everything, from Chinatown with its typical markets, to the original facades of Little India, also Arab street with it's temples and colourful streets packed with silk traders.

One of the best things about Singapore is the food and drink. Singapore can offer everything from cheap to chic, from western to true Singaporean, in an Eastern ambiance that's almost unrivalled. If you want to relax and have some fun, head for Sentosa island with its beaches, amusement parks and entertainment it's a popular choice. Make sure you check out the Night Safari, it's really a unique experience. Try a bumboat trip out into the bay to see the Merlion statue, visit one of the many museums, and round the day off with a drink in either the Palm or Long Bar at the famous old colonial hotel Raffles.

Kuala Lumpur

The cosmopolitan capital of Malaysia is certainly worth a stopover.

Whilst in "KL" take the lift to the observation deck of the Petronas Towers, still the highest twin towers in the world, but how much longer? And then there’s also the neo-colonial, Anglo-Moorish style train station, the ultra-modern Masjid Negara mosque and the surprising contrast, interlaced between the high rise buildings, the small streets and kampongs where the pace of life is quite a bit slower.

You'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to eating in KL. Malaysian satay and excellent fish-head soup compete with plenty of cheap fast-food restaurants (if you not feeling so adventurous). If you've got time how about a day trip to Malacca, a lovely city with fantastic old Dutch ruins.
